Wild Ride Wednesday
Or Thrilling Thursday

Wild Ride Wednesday

The Dow spike.
The UK election.
McCain et al move to drain the Freddie/Fannie slush fund.

Each is thread worthy. Each are linked up down and sideways to larger issues. Each will have long term consequences. Even The Grauniad is trying to walk back from the brink.

Given how amateurish and distracted the leaders of the West are, and given that Rahm isn't the only one to believe that a crisis is an opportunity, and given that less than a year and a half ago the Russians took advantage of the Olympic media pop festival as a good time to invade Georgia, this would be a time when those waiting for their chance might make a push. Many years ago when the point of staging an international incident was to get on the front page of the New York Times so that Uncle Sam would be pressured to get involved. India and Pakistan reportedly once postponed a conflict because the Editor could not promise them adequate coverage. Now that America's reputation is shrinking we are more likely to see real efforts to grab assets in the dark or bully isolated countries who can not count on the US cavalry arriving.

  2. Concur, they need to at least 200 nukes I would think to forestall a first strike and have a credible "Samson option."
