Obama is preemptively destroying the US nuclear stockpile. That reduces the credibility of our deterrence. It increases the probability of aggressive action by everyone else.
The difference between now and the world of Bogart is that then the struggle was perceived as a contest between people, some right and some wrong, but both with mutually comprehensible reactions to questions involving issues such as force and fear and love and hate. Bogies newspaper is attacked by fascist thugs and stooges but it would have been to incredible to expect the audience to see them being lead by simpering self destructive monsters like whiskey's tranzis and sexually confused sluts.
Evelyn Waugh did have characters like the ones who have brought us to this pass. The difference is that back then most of them had enough of a survival instinct to support the majority in its struggle to survive. Ambrose Silk, Poppett Green, Parsnip and Pimpernell and friends at least knew who their real enemies were.

Hi, LotM --say, i can't post anymore at BC --every post --and that's a bunch of 'em over the last two days --just disappears. But I'm reading y'all! and it's cracklin' good stuff!

Your problem is puzzling. I have had posts swallowed, usually for having multiple URL links, and my quote of the lyrics to "The End" never made it to the BC but Wretchard usually gets me out of moderation. Of course that happens to late to be a meaningful part of the conversation.
Far more confrontational people then you seem to post without trouble. What does Wretchard say and have you contacted the PJM people directly?
My blog is meant as a diary of my thoughts. Why don't you put your "lost posts" collection up online?
Thanks for the reply, LotM --to tell the truth, being unable to post @ BC the last couple days has sort of broken the spell --a compulsion rises up from time to time --got to get a thought down, got to add to the whole --but i'm noting that BC's closed door quickly becomes a daily gift of about two hours (actually more, but I decided to lie) much needed to catch up on disorder in my own zone (as opposed to the world zone --LOL).
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo i'll give it a few days longer and then try again --I do wish i knew what the problem is --I have emailed Wretchard who tries to effect repair but it doesn't 'take' and i am loath to be demanding --after all a kibitzer is a kibitzer --!

well, hang in there --i have a feeling lots of people learn a lot of things from your input --things are a fricken mess in the world but printing examples of positivism both in their medium (the bothering to reach out to readers who may benefit) and message (how-to, here's some facts) --well it can't hoit!
